Update - February 2019

Dear Friends,

The song, "The Bridge" by Casting Crowns reminds me of the lesson that my husband teaches folks when he's sharing Christ with them.  Pat explains that Jesus is the Bridge connecting the lost by faith to God.  Jesus is the only Way to eternal salvation (John 14:6).  May the lost open their hearts to God before it's too late.  

We just recently shared the Gospel with some Chinese folks at a New Years celebration.  Pray for them to accept Jesus as their Savior.
During the month of January, Pat appointed five men to be leaders in our church.  Pray for these godly men and for their families as well.  
Many of you have asked for an update on our children.  Thank you! 

Here's what's going on...

Robert volunteered as an intern last summer and learned that he enjoyed it.  He wants to serve internationally as a US ambassador if it's the Lord's will.  Until then, he wants to get an internship at the White House.  He's still waiting to hear about it.  He's in his third year in college. He hopes to return here for Elisabeth's graduation in June.

Elisabeth departs for 22 March for her 2nd mission trip to the Philippines.  It's a difficult trip because it will involve working in the slums.  We ask for prayer for those going to be spiritually, physically, and emotionally strong.  We pray that souls will be saved and lives impacted for Christ.

David is a young Eagle at age 15, praise God!  He worked hard building a large food storage cabinet for the local senior citizens home.  He has a genuine concern for people and it meant a lot to him to minister unto those poor folks.  David has stepped up to the plate and taken on a leadership role in the Scouts.  We're very thankful for his desire to be an Eagle.  He took the initiative to do it and make it his own.  It means more to him as a result.

Anna just turned "13" and she's still our biggest ministry partner.  She loves folks of all ages and is kind to them.  Kids come to our house because of her and they bring their parents.  It's a win-win situation, praise God!

Prayer Requests:
February 11 & 12- Elisabeth has two Skype interviews for two different college scholarships.
Pray for our church leaders to be strong in the Lord.
Pray for Michelle to get an assistant for children's church.
Pray for Pat as he continues to minister, teach, train, and study the Word rightly divided.

Praises:
One of the churches paid for our Toyota's engine to be over-hauled so that we can continue to use it for a long time.
Elisabeth raised the support money that she needs for her upcoming mission trip! :)
One of our close friends from the States visited us recently and it was such an encouragement.

Update - January, 2019

Thank you for your support of our ministry in Southeast Asia. We are blessed to reach the unsaved for God’s glory. May He continue to give us favor as we build and maintain relationships through our weekly church ministries: Children’s Church (Elementary & Middle schools); English classes & Bible studies (Beginner/Advanced levels). Teaching God’s Word is fulfilling for many reasons. It’s important for the saints to be edified and for the lost to hear the Gospel. Please pray that folks will be drawn closer to Him and that they will be motivated to serve Him. Pray for our new church leaders and for their families to be strong in the Lord.

Also, pray for our oldest son Robert as he seeks an internship in the White House. Pray for our oldest daughter Elisabeth as she prepares for her upcoming mission trip to the Philippines. Praise God that our son David has just become an Eagle Scout! Finally, our youngest daughter Anna turns “13” soon. We praise God for their good health and love for the Lord.

Orphanage Visit

Update - October 15, 2018

Hello and Greetings to you all from Southeast Asia!
Our church group went to work in a Hindu orphanage last Sunday.  They were the 'hands and feet' of Jesus as they worked hard and played with the kids.  Pat said that it went very well and it was a good experience for all (see pic above).  
I worked at our church with many others.  Some students painted, while the rest of us cleaned and made minor repairs.  It was nice having everyone work together and serve others for Him. 
Last night during our home Bible study, we had a record number of +25 adults & 15 kids. We're grateful to God for bringing these dear folks, but we have serious space issues. People are so hungry for Truth that they don't mind sitting on our floor to hear it!  We give thanks to God!  Only He deserves our praise.

Also, during our Mission Emphasis Sunday in November, TCM overseas worker Myra Omictin will be our guest speaker as she shares the importance of mission.

Prayer Requests:
 Hindu orphans to be saved; space issues to be resolved at home & church (see attached pic); Myra's presentation will touch hearts for mission.

Update - June 25, 2018

Dear Friends,
Greetings to you in the wonderful grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!  Today is my oldest son's birthday and I am so blessed to be with him.  God is good and worthy to be praised.  Let's remember to pause, and give thanks for everything (challenges & triumphs (read 1 Cor. 10:13).  Every day is a gift from God.  

Yesterday in church I explained to my youngest daughter and her best friend about the importance of being faithful stewards (I Cor. 4:2).  It was good for these young girls to ponder about the many things that they are stewards over (their room, clothes, pets, friends, etc).  As believers we can be good stewards over many things and especially our thoughts (read Proverbs 4:23).  It's important to recognize truth from deception (Phil. 4:8), "...bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ" (2 Cor. 10:4-5), and put off the bad thoughts (Eph. 4:22-24). 

Below is my husband's letter to you from Southeast Asia.  Please pray for him as he trains a group of men to be future deacons & elders in our church.  As always, thank you for serving the Lord alongside us in intercessory prayer. We strive to be good stewards for His glory.

Dear Friends,
Greetings in the Lord from SE Asia! As I write this letter, it is pouring down rain outside, the third such storm we have had today. Rainy season always makes me think of home, not because it’s like the weather in Georgia, but rather because it is so different! Living in a place where seemingly everything is different – the weather, food, culture, customs, and others – comes with all sorts of challenges, but also with blessings that surpass what we can experience in our home environment.

I experienced one such blessing this week. From June 19th-22nd, I traveled to Yangon, Myanmar to visit the Myanmar Grace Theological School (MGTS). Formerly known as Burma, Myanmar is a very poor country that has been ravaged by political and social instability for decades. Only in the past five years has the country opened up to outsiders, and TCM has taken advantage of the opportunity. There I met with our faithful Myanmar missionaries - Dan and Amy Banac, Gardner Improso, and Kenneth Ling.

Also, my friend Dai Fei, who lives near me and attends our church in SE Asia, accompanied me to Yangon at my invitation. Dai is 48 years old and hails from China, where he grew up in an atheistic environment that discouraged God in daily life – not unlike the experience of people from Myanmar. About 3 years ago, Dai visited our Bible study, in his words “to practice my English.” Over the course of many months he came to accept Christ as his Savior, and he now enjoys the “peace that passeth understanding.” I asked Mr. Dai to go with me to Yangon so that he could be exposed to the larger Christian movement around the world. While in Myanmar, he was asked to address the Bible students with a word of encouragement. Using English, he told them, “I think you are lucky to be able to study the Bible at such a young age.” He went on to talk about the peace he now has because of what God has done for us. He closed by telling them this: “Most of the world is looking for success on the outside. Real success comes from having God change you inside.”

These words of advice– very “Chinese” in their logic and unsteadily delivered in his second language - brought tears of joy to my eyes. Later I wept in my hotel room as I thought about how privileged I am to live and minister in a place like this, where God loves each of the billions of souls in this region, and where every precious saint who comes to faith does so at a far greater cost than I can fathom. Mr. Dai and others like him make all the challenges, all the heavy rains, all the uncomfortable cultural gaffes, all the missed comforts of home, and all of the heartaches of separation worth the struggle.

I hope you know that you, too, share in this ministry. The successes are yours, and we know that you cover us in prayer during the failures and struggles. From my family to yours, thank you from the bottoms of our hearts for your faithfulness in giving to this ministry.

Update - March 15, 2018

Hello! 
 We had a good morning today!  While Pat was teaching the basic English class, I was about to teach my Biblical counseling class.  This morning turned out very differently.
Ten minutes before my class was to start, a Chinese woman named Spring (who has attended our English classes these past three years) sought me out.   She said that she had questions from our previous week's conversation.  
Using our translator, she explained that she wanted more information about the Chinese tract that I had given her.  She said that she wanted God's peace and that she believed that God has been dealing with her lately.  
After carefully explaining the Good News, I asked if she understood.  She said that she did and that she was ready to pray to accept Him as her Savior.  My class was able to witness this amazing event. She says that she has a "joyful feeling" now.  Praise God!  May He receive all the glory.

Prayer Requests:
Pray for Spring, her husband, and their three children.  My translator and I plan on meeting with her next week to begin discipleship.  
Pray for the Sanders family (TCM candidates). They'll survey our area in late April through mid-May and then travel to the SEAGC in Thailand.
Pray for our son Robert to have God's wisdom as he makes important decisions.

Update - February 19, 2018

Dear Friends,

Chinese New Year (CNY) just ended this past weekend, but you can still see "ang pows" (red envelopes with money), hear firecrackers, eat traditional Asian treats, and smell incense burning in the dry air.  Yesterday our family was invited to the home of our friends to celebrate this festive occasion with their family.  They greet each other with "Gong Xi Fa Cai" (Happy CNY) and bring the host family all kinds of gifts.  It's similar to our version of Christmas because of the big emphasis that is placed on spending time with family.  

Last week our close friend Tasha and her girls invited us to dinner at an upscale Chinese restaurant (see pic below) for CNY.  Many people celebrate this holiday for fifteen days.  This past weekend most of the stores shut down for two days while the owners visited their families in the different hometowns.  

Prayer Requests:
"Fan" is a new believer (praise God!).  Pray for her husband to accept the One true God as well.  He's only attended our church once.  Her daughter (Fei) and her son (Sunshine) are precious kids.  They seem to love our church.

Pray for Joel & Leah, (kids-Enoch & Naomi) Sanders as they prepare to journey here to assist us in late April through mid-May.  Praise God that He has provided them with housing within walking distance to our church and the local stores.

Of course, we always appreciate your prayers for our Robert as he completes his Associates degree in Liberal Arts on 4/28.
We have many more requests, but these are the first that come to mind.

As we labor together, let us not grow weary as we seek to honor Him. (Read Galatians 6:9). May He receive all the praise and glory!  Thank you!!

Update - January 22, 2018

Hello Dear Friends!
Greetings to you from southeast Asia.  We had an encouraging church service yesterday.  Every seat was filled and all heard the Good News of eternal salvation.  Pat's sermon was about the apostle to the Gentiles- apostle Paul (Ephesians 3).  He got positive feedback from many folks.  Thanks for praying! 

Elisabeth (17) and I taught children ages 3-12 in separate classrooms.  She's been teaching about Moses and the disobedient Israelites and I just finished teaching about the many kings of Israel.  We believe that children should be taught at a young age about the Bible, so it's always fun to add pictures to the lessons.  We've been blessed by some friends in Washington who sent us Child Evangelism Fellowship's flannel graphs to use.  

Last Thursday we restarted our English classes at our church (PBC) and they were a success.  We have four classes on Thursdays: two English classes and two Bible classes.  We are hoping that our English classes will be a wonderful outreach.  Prayer for these folks is always appreciated.

On a personal note, our baby Anna is no longer a baby.  She turns twelve on Sunday.  Anna has done so much for our ministry.  Because of her loving nature, kids of all ages are drawn to her.  In the Asian culture, children are the center of the household.  Their parents will take them to church if they want to go. We want to continue reaching the parents for Christ.

Update - October 23, 2017

Hello dear folks from back home!

We hope you're doing well.  On October 8th, we had our first outreach conference at our church and it was successful.  God blessed it abundantly and for that we're thankful (Ephesians 3:20-21).  

TCM International Director Ben Anderson preached the main lesson, followed by a lunch break, and then two more seminars.  We had more than 100 attend the main service and there were more than a dozen countries represented (see pic).

Your gifts, prayers, and precious time that you've invested in this ministry has enabled us to have this special service.  Only God can bless you for your sacrificial giving, but we can give thanks for you!

Pray: Next Sunday PBC will have a work day called, "Church Without Walls" and we'll minister unto a local orphanage by painting & cleaning.

Update - August 25, 2017

Dear Friends,

It was 1995 and Pat had taken me with him to go fishing off his Aunt Beulah's dock on Indian River.  As I was gazing at a beautiful sunset, suddenly my beloved got down on his knee and tenderly held out a diamond ring.  He said, "remember where you are" because he didn't want me to get too excited and drop it!  I am just as amazed now at my love for him as I was then.  We're very blessed to have our Lord at the center of our marriage.  God is faithful and He gets all the glory!

Now we are blessed to have four children at different stages in their lives (19, 17, 13, 11) one in college, one in high school, and two in middle school.  Our oldest is beginning his sophomore year.  We are chatting with him as often as possible given the thirteen-hour time difference.  It was rough saying "goodbye" to him a few weeks ago, but God is faithful and we trust in Him.   

I'm sharing this personal update for several reasons.  We need prayers.  Our kids need prayers. Our ministry needs prayers.  Not only our family, but other miss ionary families need prayers, especially for MKs.  Pray for the Killions (see pic below).  They were just here with us recently when we said goodbye to Robert.  They're a precious family and we're blessed to know them well.

Ministry update: My biblical counseling training is off to a good start.  I would say "strong start" but we're not there yet.  Due to the language difficulties (Chinese, Korean, Japanese) I can only do so much.  We have a Chinese translator named Fabian (pray for him).  He's very important to our work here.  He's in his late 50's and he has time on his hands (thank God!!) and we need him.  He does the copying, translating, anything we need ministry related.  He's decided that he wants the remainder of his years working hard serving the Lord and he wants to be a biblical counselor (praise God!).

Patrick is doing well preaching every Sunday.  We have really quite a lot of folks attending (standing room only at times) and we bought a few more chairs.  I am busy teaching Children's church and English class. They're both going well.  I'm enjoying serving the Lord here and it's very fulfilling seeing people grow in their Bible understanding.  Many are hearing about grace for the first time!

Thank you for your support (prayers, gifts, friendship).  May God continue to bless us all as we serve Him through loving others!  Be a blessing to someone- it might just lead them to Christ!

Update - July 3, 2017

Dear Saints,
Thank you once again for your generous gifts to our TCM account.  May our Lord bless you. (Phil. 4:17).  Also, thank you for praying.  My husband returned safely to us yesterday.

Driving down the road recently, I noticed a local blind man being led by his friend.  I couldn't help but recall the verse that speaks about the blind leading the blind in Matthew 15:14.  Our Lord was referring to the wicked Pharisees as "blind leaders" in the previous verses. Later in chapter 18:11, He says, "For the Son of man is come to save that which is lost."

We're surrounded by lost people from all backgrounds (local, foreign, wealthy, poor, young, old, etc).  Because of the idolatry that is passed down from generation to generation, some of these folks never get a chance to be told of the One true God who can forgive them of their sins.  In a sense, these folks are blinded to the truth that can set them free from their sins (John 8:32).

We may be few in number, but we can invest in those who will listen.  Hopefully, they will also invest in others and continue to spread the Good News.  Often times, a conversation can begin with a simple "hello" and lead from there.  Pray for opportunities!

July 4th is a special day in our family.  We're thankful for our wonderful country, (including those who have faithfully served), and for our oldest daughter's birthday!  We're thankful for you, too!

Update - June 7, 2017

Dear Brothers and Sisters in the faith,

Thank you for standing with us as we disciple, instruct, and love others for His sake.  We appreciate your prayers and your gifts!  We thank God for you.  

As I write this letter, my husband is about to board his long flight to Seoul, Korea.  In twenty-four hours he will land in Dallas, TX (Lord willing) and reunite with his parents and sister Kelly.  It has been since May 2014 that he was last in America.  We are praising God that he is able to sit in an emergency row seat so that his long legs can stretch out!

PBC weekly outreach- three English classes & a Bible study.
Ministry Update: Ms. L, a short-termer from MN arrived a week ago to assist us. She'll lead the advanced English class, and teach the Monday & Friday Bible studies.  (See the picture below from last Friday). Pray for Ms. L as she recovers from jet lag and adjusts to the heat.  Her help is much appreciated!

Update - April 24, 2017

Hello to each and everyone of you,

  It is with much gratitude that I update you on PBC's 1st service project.  Although our fellowship is only five months old (Nov. 6th), we had a great turn-out!  I was skeptical when Pat first mentioned months ago that we should deep-clean a Hindu orphanage.  In fact, I thought that it would be just a few people working.  I was concerned that we would let the children's home down.  In this area, we believers are so few in number that it would have been shameful if we didn't finish the job. 

Yet, the Lord provided enough workers to clean and organize a kitchen, 7-8 toilets & sinks, girls/boys dorm rooms, a mini library, and the front yard.

We worked two hours scrubbing, washing, sweeping, dusting, and folding clothes. Before and after the project we prayed for God to be glorified.  We determined not to do this job for human praise, but for His glory! (Matthew 25:40)

One Hindu woman commented about how surprised she was to see me (a pastor's wife) scrubbing toilets!  Please pray for hearts to be changed to the One true God!!  Also, pray that the ones who labored had heart changes as well.  I will add pictures to my secure blog soon.

Update - April 3, 2017

Dearest Friends,
    Greetings to you in the grace of our Lord!  April is my favorite month for many reasons.  In the States, it's a beautiful time of growth.  I can't help but be a little sentimental as it's also my birthday month.  Spring is a refreshing season and one that we shouldn't take for granted.  
    Here it's warm year-round.  This year Easter falls on April 16th and we're looking forward to a wonderful service that day.  Pat is preparing an excellent lesson in anticipation of Resurrection Day. Each Easter he teaches on the "Cup of Gethsemane."  The lesson focuses on what Christ had to do to atone for our sins. Pat shows from the Bible what the "cup" is and how our Lord had to endure it (read Matthew 26).
    PBC is doing its first service project on April 23rd  at a Hindu orphanage.  For two-three hours we'll organize closets, deep-clean two kitchens, play with the children, and be "Jesus with skin on."  Please pray for this important outreach.  We must practice what we preach and show God's love to others (even if it makes us feel uncomfortable). So far, we have twenty folks signed up for this challenge.  We need to be spiritually and physically prepared on that day.
Finally, our family would like to take this time to "thank you" for your sacrificial giving and for your prayers. We're blessed to serve Him together with you for His glory!

Update - February 8, 2017

Hi Folks, Hope you're all doing well! We are honored to have our good friend Joyce Anderson stay with us this week. It's been so refreshing having a veteran missionary here. After starting our first church in a foreign country, we've needed valuable feedback from her. She's also been an eye witness to the spiritual growth that's taking place within our core group of believers. She met many of them last year when she and her husband Ben stayed with us. Praise God for precious friendships and for much needed encouragement.

One woman recently began coming to our Bible studies because of a mutual friendship. She has experienced difficult life-long problems that she openly shared with us. Since we believe that God's Word is sufficient for all things, we gave her hope from the Scriptures. Now she has trusted in Christ as her Savior and her particular spiritual battles are gone! Only God can do these kind of miracles. This is just one example of God's love conquering spiritual oppression. We hear many life-changing stories of God's goodness.
